The FrameWorks Show details
Hi Everyone,
Here are the details for the OPM Fall/Winter Show at The FrameWorks Gallery. Each OPM member (that has paid the $35 annual due in 2013) can enter 2 works, they do have to be done plein air. There isn't a jurying process so what you drop off will be hung, however space is an issue so if you are entering a larger piece like 16x20 or bigger balance it with a 9x12 or 8x10 out of consideration to your fellow OPMers.
Thanks, Richard
These are the dates and times I received from Pam today.
Dates of the show - November 16th through January 4th. Opening Nov 16th from 7 to 10 pm.
Drop off dates - Tuesday Nov 12th from 10 am to 9 pm or Wednesday Nov 13th from 10 am to 7 pm.
Inventory - Please bring a written inventory that includes title, medium and price. Make sure it also includes all of your contact information.
Artists Statement - If you want one displayed with your work, please e-mail it to frameworksmn@outlook.com no later than 11/12/13.
Identification - Mark the back of each piece of work with your name and it's title!

Arboretum Show Painting Pick Up
Hey OPM,
Got this from Keith Wilcock, info on the art pick up and nice comments on OPM members.
We plan to take down the OPM show at the Arboretum on Thursday, August 1st. The unsold paintings will be available for pick up here at the gallery on August 2nd. We have limited storage space and encourage members to pick up their paintings at their earliest convenience.
We had some good feedback from Arboretum members and staff. At last count we had sold six paintings. In this economy, we think that is an OK result. Traffic at the Arboretum has been good this summer so the paintings were seen by several thousand visitors.
We will submit a bill for sold paintings to the Arboretum after the show comes down. They usually pay 30 days after they get the bill, and as soon as we receive the check we will pay the artists. Thanks in advance for your patience.
We enjoyed meeting and working with OPM members. They were friendly, responsive and cooperative. We were happy to met some artists we had not known about before.
If any OPM members have questions or concerns, please feel free to call us.

Letter from Keith Wilcock - Wilcock Gallery
Dear Richard,
Here is a progress report on the OPM Arboretum show.
Wow! Forty three artists responded to the call and brought 82 paintings to the Wilcock gallery. The quality is excellent. Joe and I had a difficult time deciding what to include. As I mentioned, the Reedy gallery can accommodate about 50 paintings.. Because many of the pieces are small, we are pushing the total to 55 or 60. Everyone who entered will get at least one piece in. We eliminated some of the snowscapes in favor of flowers. We had a few too many shades of green landscapes and tried to choose pieces that would represent variety. Several pieces were actually painted at the Arboretum.
We still need some artist statements for the binder in the gallery. They can be e-mailed to us at joe@wilcockgallery.com .
It was fun meeting so many seasoned artists, seeing their art and learning more about their activities and careers. We hope to see OPM members painting in the Arboretum, if spring ever really does arrive.
Questions or concerns can be directed to us at (952) 470-8118.

Elosie Butler Event Update
Hi OPM,
I've been in touch with Lauren Borer the Education Coordinator at the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden & Bird Sanctuary.
She sent me this.
"June 8th is a busy day at the Garden.
The Urban Birding Festival will taking place that weekend with birding
walks going on in and around the Garden. There will also be a family
event happening near the Wirth Pavilion and within the Garden through In
the Heart of the Beast Theater company called Fairies and Flowers.
I
would like promote these event together since they are all happening on
the same day. Do you have any images, logos, or photos that can be used
to make a simple postcard or flier to be posted in our Visitor’s
Shelter on our bulletin board."
So I'm putting it out there to send me a any images of wildflower paintings that I could send her along with the OPM logo. Please just send me one image, I'll send her 3 jpegs max. I just thought this would be better than Lauren getting 50 emails with images attached.
Thanks,
Richard

Arboretum Show Update from Keith Wilcock
Hey OPM,
Just received this email from Keith, passing it on.
Hi Richard,
Regarding the Arboretum show:
Up to two paintings delivered to the Wilcock Gallery at 218 Water Street, downtown Excelsior, on or before April 15. They need not be all field sketches. Larger studio painting are also acceptable. They should be framed with wires for hanging. (We can help if need be.) Artists will receive 3 month passes to get into the Arboretum for painting and to attend the show. We will also have them sign our consignment agreement which provides insurance coverage during the show..
We will hang the show , take it down, bill the Arboretum for sold pieces and pay the artists. We will hang the show May 1st and take it down July 31. We will make the final decision on what to hang but everyone who enters will get at least one piece in. No opening celebration on May ist.
We will celebrate on the June 2nd paint out. On that day the Arboretum has also scheduled "Music in the Gardens", so there should be a good crowd of visitors. At 4PM we will bring the field sketches to the Reedy gallery for a "show and tell". There will be punch and cookies. Perhaps you can give a brief presentation for visitors and OPM members on the challenges of plein air painting and OPM's mission.
Anyone with questions or concerns can call us at (952) 470-8118.
Yours,
Keith Wilcock

Plein Air Survey
Hi OPM
This is from Wendie Thompson of the Wisconsin Plein Air Painting Assoc., I contacted her last week about some sort of future "Border Battle" plein air event MN vs WI and she loved the idea. She in turn asked if I would pass this survey on to the OPM membership. It's an interesting issue, and could impact local plein air events like Red Wing and Grand Marais, check it out.
Richard Abraham
Recently
in the October-November issue of Plein Air Magazine, Editor Eric Rhoads
suggested that the Plein Air community would benefit from the creation of a
sanctioning body to rate Plein Air events.
In this article he suggested standards for running these events, in order to maintain the quality of work and sustain the interests of collectors. There will be a meeting to discuss this idea and the issues raised at the next Plein Air Convention being held in a couple of weeks.
In order to give the Plein Air community a voice at that meeting, some of my fellow WIPAPA members and I have created a survey that deals with these issues.
The survey is only 22 questions and takes about 10 minutes to complete. If this interests you, I urge you to take the survey and offer your opinions to the discussion.
